Last week I decided to try something new, I went for a floating session at Koan Float in Amsterdam. I was interested to experience the floating for myself and also to find out about the different health benefits from the Epsom salts and the floating session.
What is Floating?
It is just what it sounds like! You float effortlessly on the surface of the water in a floating capsule which is designed to reduce all stimuli (sound and light) to the brain. The water contains Epsom salts which enables your body to float. After a few minutes you are hardly able to notice which parts of your body are in contact with the water and which are not. The experience is very tranquil and relaxing.
Benefits of Floating.
Floating is said to be beneficial for improving heart and circulatory health, flushing toxins from the body, relieving stress, improving nerve function and the body's ability to use insulin. It also is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety. It is also believed to increase the rate of healing in the body, alleviates pain, increases endorphin production and reduces the production of cortisol, ACTH, lactic acid and adrenaline.
My session was 60 minutes in length and I found it wonderfully relaxing. Koan Float also offer a wide range of massages to compliment your relaxing floating experience.
