Cupping: So what's all the hype?

I find it funny how this image of swimmer Michael Phelps is one of the most talked about photos from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The number of news articles written about cupping since he was spotted with cupping marks is huge. Everyone is talking about this 'cupping thing'. My physiotherapy clients keep asking me 'what's this cupping thing that athletes are using at the Olympics?' We are all so influenced by other people, whether its wanting to look like them or wanting to copy the products they use. All I can say is that I'm almost 100% sure Michael Phelps does not receive any money for endorsing cupping. Because there is no money in cupping, or any other holistic health therapy, not the kind of money anyway that would be able to pay sponsorship, but enough to make a living out of if your good at it. None of us would even know he used cupping if it weren't for the fact that if leaves marks on the skin for a few days, though I do know he has posted on social media about it in the past. Heres a guy who makes millions (his approx. net worth is 44 million) promoting brands such as Under Armour, Speedo, Head and Shoulders, Kellog, Omega watcher etc, has probably some of the best medical experts and sports scientists on his team, but yet he chooses to use a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine to aid his recovery after training or competitions. So there has to be something in it right?

Inspiring Story Sunday: Amazing Acupuncture

I thought it would be a great idea to start sharing some of my client stories on my blog. It's often a great way to really understand how beneficial treatments are to so some clients' lives. I had a great conversation with one of my clients last week and I thought it would be interesting to share her story with my readers! She also wanted to write me a testimonial for my website as she would love to encourage others to give treatments such as acupuncture a try and hopefully experience some amazing results themselves.

TOP 10: Natural Anti-Inflammatory Foods

There are many anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) on the market, available as 'over the counter' (OTC), or via a medical prescription. All are designed to ease your pain and other symptoms associated with inflammation. However, like most medications, they can have some serious side effects, especially in the form of stomach lining irritation and allergic reactions.

As a Physiotherapist and Health Coach, a large portion of my are already taking either painkillers or NSAIDS before they walk through my door, either OTC or prescription. I also have a significant number of clients who say to me 'I can't take anti-inflammatories because they upset my stomach' or 'I don't take any medications, they are not good for you'. But its my next question that often baffles my clients, 'So what natural anti-inflammatories have you tried or are taking?'I just get blank stares and awkward silences. I'm always surprised at the number of people that seem proud of themselves for deciding to not take conventional medication, but have absolutely no idea what foods or natural products could help them instead.
