The Advantages of choosing an Online Health Coach

We live in a world where time is money. So why waste time traveling to an appointment when you don't have to? I find I actually get better results from the clients I coach online vs those I coach face to face. Sometimes people think the online coaching lacks the personal touch but I couldn't disagree more. Normally when starting with a new client, the first session may be a video call rather than voice call. This is so that the client has an opportunity to see me in person rather than just hear a voice. With subsequent sessions I tend to prefer to keep them to voice calls only, but it is really up to the client and their wishes, I'm happy with either.

Floating into the Abyss...

Last week I decided to try something new, I went for a floating session at Koan Float in Amsterdam. I was interested to experience the floating for myself and also to find out about the different health benefits from the Epsom salts and the floating session.

What is Floating?

It is just what it sounds like! You float effortlessly on the surface of the water in a floating capsule which is designed to reduce all stimuli (sound and light) to the brain. The water contains Epsom salts which enables your body to float. After a few minutes you are hardly able to notice which parts of your body are in contact with the water and which are not. The experience is very tranquil and relaxing.

Benefits of Floating.

Floating is said to be beneficial for improving heart and circulatory health, flushing toxins from the body, relieving stress, improving nerve function and the body's ability to use insulin. It also it a great way to reduce stress, anxiety and for relaxing. It is also believed to increase the rate of healing in the body, alleviates pain, increases endorphin production and reduces the production of cortisol, ACTH, lactic acid and adrenaline.

Phos Wellness: 21st Century Skin Care

Earlier this year I started using a new brand of skin care products by Phos Wellness . The 'Face Elixir Lipid' for combination skin has become my daily go to for a facial oil. It smells amazing and melts into the skin easily. My normally combination skin has transformed since starting to using these products. After moving from the humid climate of Bermuda to the dry European climate and central heating my skin was not happy. But now the dryness has resolved and is feeling less sensitive and inflamed.  I have also started using the skin products with my Facial Acupuncture clients with great results. I use the Face Elixir Lipid for combination skin with the Bio Recovery Gel  for my skin and the Eye Ozone around my eyes. Here is a bit more info about the products below.

Going Dutch: Tony's Chocolonely aim for 100% Slave free chocolate

Recently I had the pleasure of an invite to Tony's Chocolonely's head office in Amsterdam. Yes, be very jealous! I had the guided tour, saw the tasting room, museum cupboard with all the past and present products and the 'Chocolate Wall'. I'm pretty sure the office fridge was just full of chocolate also! It seemed more like Willy Wonker's Chocolate factory than an office. Where do I apply for a job? I also had a good laugh reading the 'Who are we' page for the staff on the Tony's website, who knew the Dutch were so crazy? But I guess it goes in line with their motto 'Crazy about chocolate, serious about people'.

The Kokedama Craze! My Sunday workshop in Amsterdam.

My Sunday afternoon was spent learning about and making my own Kokedama. The workshop was taught by the entertaining and informative Mahalia and Sirus from 'We Smell The Rain', a local design studio specialising in crafted greenery.  The Hoxton Hotel on the Herengracht hosted the workshop in their lovely apartment setting. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and a great activity to do with friends or maybe get someone as a birthday gift.

So what is Kokedama?

Kokedama is a Japanese tradition and literally means 'moss ball'. It is a variant of the Japanese Bonsai and have become somewhat 'trendy' as indoor plants and are a favourite with interior designers and in eco friendly offices and working spaces. They are also great for those of us living in city apartments and have no garden or outdoor area at home.

Cupping: So what's all the hype?

I find it funny how this image of swimmer Michael Phelps is one of the most talked about photos from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The number of news articles written about cupping since he was spotted with cupping marks is huge. Everyone is talking about this 'cupping thing'. My physiotherapy clients keep asking me 'what's this cupping thing that athletes are using at the Olympics?' We are all so influenced by other people, whether its wanting to look like them or wanting to copy the products they use. All I can say is that I'm almost 100% sure Michael Phelps does not receive any money for endorsing cupping. Because there is no money in cupping, or any other holistic health therapy, not the kind of money anyway that would be able to pay sponsorship, but enough to make a living out of if your good at it. None of us would even know he used cupping if it weren't for the fact that if leaves marks on the skin for a few days, though I do know he has posted on social media about it in the past. Heres a guy who makes millions (his approx. net worth is 44 million) promoting brands such as Under Armour, Speedo, Head and Shoulders, Kellog, Omega watcher etc, has probably some of the best medical experts and sports scientists on his team, but yet he chooses to use a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine to aid his recovery after training or competitions. So there has to be something in it right?
