After working in health-care for over ten years, I am still always surprised by how few people actually know the basics about their own health. Much of this information can be found out easily with no cost, but still most clients who walk through my door have no idea of simple aspects of their health, such as how much they weigh or their resting heart rate.Read More

Last week I decided to try something new, I went for a floating session at Koan Float in Amsterdam. I was interested to experience the floating for myself and also to find out about the different health benefits from the Epsom salts and the floating session.
What is Floating?
It is just what it sounds like! You float effortlessly on the surface of the water in a floating capsule which is designed to reduce all stimuli (sound and light) to the brain. The water contains Epsom salts which enables your body to float. After a few minutes you are hardly able to notice which parts of your body are in contact with the water and which are not. The experience is very tranquil and relaxing.
Benefits of Floating.
Floating is said to be beneficial for improving heart and circulatory health, flushing toxins from the body, relieving stress, improving nerve function and the body's ability to use insulin. It also it a great way to reduce stress, anxiety and for relaxing. It is also believed to increase the rate of healing in the body, alleviates pain, increases endorphin production and reduces the production of cortisol, ACTH, lactic acid and adrenaline.Read More
My Sunday afternoon was spent learning about and making my own Kokedama. The workshop was taught by the entertaining and informative Mahalia and Sirus from 'We Smell The Rain', a local design studio specialising in crafted greenery. The Hoxton Hotel on the Herengracht hosted the workshop in their lovely apartment setting. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and a great activity to do with friends or maybe get someone as a birthday gift.
So what is Kokedama?

It is a variant of the Japanese Bonsai and have become somewhat 'trendy' as indoor plants and are a favourite with interior designers and in eco friendly offices and working spaces. They are also great for those of us living in city apartments and have no garden or outdoor area at home.Read More
