Why Linen And Bamboo Bedding Are Better Options Than Cotton.

Most people I know either have natural cotton or man-made polyester bedding. Some have even gone down the route of buying organic cotton even if it is a little more pricey. However, is organic cotton the best option? Cotton plants take huge amounts of water and land in order to grow fairly small amounts of the end product. Linen and bamboo are much faster growing crops which require much less water and more of the plant can be used to make the final product, therefore less land required for growing. Have you tried linen or bamboo bedding yet? If not, you really should!

About The Flax Sack

The Flax Sack is a fairly new UK based sustainable bedding company that believe people should be able to choose high quality comfortable bedding which is also sustainable and ethically made. They have created a unique blend of linen and bamboo to make the bedding even softer and easier to care for. Linen fabric is twice a durable at cotton, which makes buying The Flax Sack a great plan if you are wanting long lasting bedding items. The bamboo incorporated into the fabric helps to soften and decrease creases in the fabric and the longer you have the item and the more you use it the softer it gets. The bamboo is also a natural antibacterial and is moisture absorbent, helping to keep you cool during those warm Summer nights. Also, those with skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis are recommended to sleep on natural fibres rather than polyester to decrease irritation and inflammation.

The Flax Sack have created some earthy and natural colour tones for their bedding collection which is totally on trend for current eco home styles. It’s neither too masculine or feminine and creates a stunning natural look to your bedroom using colours such as olive grey, oyster white and champagne pink.

How To Care For Linen + Bamboo Bedding

Many people are put off buying linen due to the extra care they think it needs to be maintained. But this isn’t true, linen is one of the oldest forms of fabric and long before washing machines or dry cleaners existed. This natural fibre is actually very easy to care for. Linen and linen & bamboo are just as easy to care for as cotton but very much more durable. Cotton can wear thin after a while but linen can last for many many years without any sign of wear and tear.

The fabric can be washed in cold to warm water (up to 30 degrees Celsius) with a gentle detergent, free of bleach. Drying in the sun is best, if possible. However, feel free to machine (tumble) dry your products as long as you stick to low temperatures. Remove from the dryer when still slightly damp to avoid the product becoming stiff, and hang or lie flat to finish off the drying process. Over drying in machine can result in damaged fabrics, so do take care when using a tumble dryer.
