Autumn Is My Favourite Season.
Autumn is here next week! How time flies. Which means Winter is coming and I'm thinking of getting cosy in my little Amsterdam canal house. Candles are a must and so is making sure they are natural and non-toxic. I've used up my ones from last year and have been following Brandt kaarsen for a while so decide to give their candles a try for this Winter. I met with the owner and candle maker Giselle to find out more about her business and candles!
About Brandt Kaarsen
Brandt kaarsen is a hand made soy candle company founded by Giselle Habraken in April 2015. The company is based in Utrecht and is inspired by a vintage pharmacy feel combined with modern design. The candles are made in small quantities in her studio and sold in various concept and natural stores around the Netherlands and Europe. The 'Pharmacy' line are made from ecological soy wax in small brown glass jars, similar to an old style apothecary. The natural scents such as Sweet Fig, Honeysuckle, Coconut & Aloe Vera and Green Tea & Lime are delightful and offer a subtle rather than overwhelming scent. The 'Wood' line come in clear whiskey glasses with the ecological soy wax and a range of forest inspired scents such as sandalwood, Cedar wood and eucalyptus. There is also a limited edition beeswax candle for you to enjoy a natural smelling home. The 'Pharmacy candles burn for 20-25hrs and the Wood line for 50-55 hrs. Giselle also creates special custom candles for events such as weddings, and celebrations.
Creating some ‘Hygge’ feels at home…..
As Autumn is approaching I decided to stock up on some natural candles for the colder months to create some 'hygge' moments at home in my apartment. I love to have some candles around the bath tub or in the living room rather than having bright artificial lights. And it's important to me that they are natural and non-toxic when burning. I also love to support small local companies that are sustainable in all aspects of their business like Brandt karssen. I picked a mix of scents for the upcoming season, Coconut & Aloe Vera, Honeysuckle, Cedar Wood & Vanilla and Eucalyptus & Lemon. I can’t wait to get them burning!
I'm looking forward to a beautiful Autumn in Amsterdam!
