The Winter season can be a difficult time for those of us with curly and wavy hair. The increased use of central heating can dry out our hair and wool clothes and hats that rub against our hair can cause extra knots and breakage. This is why I was so happy to discover that Valentina Karellas has recently started making silk-lined hats from dead stock natural fibres and using up-cycled vintage silk scarves to add an inner lining to help protect your waves and curls. I actually had an old silk scarf lying around at home that I wasn’t using so I posted it to Valentina for her to use as the lining of my hat. I also selected the colour of the yarn I wanted to make sure it suited both my hair colour and my seasonal wardrobe. I received my custom Valentina Karellas Tilney Beanie last week and am so happy with the end result. It’s great to see something old of mine that was unused be repurposed into something usable again. The hat is super warm and the soft cashmere feels lovely next to my sensitive skin, but the best part is when I take the hat off, my hair doesn’t stick to the hat and my hair still looks tidy and frizz free! Normally when removing a winter hat I’m left with a frizzy mess of static hair and I have to send some time getting it to look presentable again (I have also been known to leave my hat on inside just to avoid having to do this).
