De Belhamel Restaurant Amsterdam.

De Belhamel Amsterdam

My favourite restaurant on the Brouwersgracht.

De Belhamel is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner in Amsterdam. Located on the most beautiful canal in the city this restaurant has the best views our over the canal, especially at nighttime. The restaurant is located on the Brouwersgracht at the junction with the Herengracht in the village like Jordaan district. I managed to be seated at the 'best table in the house' which was right by the glass doors looking out over the canal. In summer time there are also tables outside for a more 'al fresco' dining experience. As it's October here now, it's a little chilly for outdoor dining so I was quite happy with the window view. You certainly need to book this restaurant in advance, as it's very popular with locals and only has a fairly small number of tables. The interior design is interesting, not exactly my taste but catches your eye for sure.

The Menu.

The menu is a mix of French and Italian influence and has a distinctive Mediterranean/ Central European style. But you will also find some Dutch influences thrown in as well. De Belhamel has received the renowned Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand award for more than six consecutive years. Here are the dishes that I tasted, the sautéed tuna was my favourite.

  • Velouté of green peas, served with smoked eel and smoked salmon on croutons.

  • Sautéed teriyaki escalope of tuna with a cucumber-prawn salad and a crunch of wasabi nuts.

  • Poached salmon and halibut with butter sauce, winter purslane and herring roe.

  • Ossobuco with a peas and mushrooms risotto.

Unfortunately I didn't try any of the desserts, oh well I will just have to go back again! Let me know if you have been to De Belhamel and how you found it in the comments below.
